Thanks to everyone who joined us for our first happy hour fundraiser of 2016! On Thursday, January 14th, 50 West Brewery kindly hosted OACGC as part of their monthly “Share the Road” event and contributed a generous portion of all sales to help support getting more urban teen out into nature.
OACGC offered an impressive kayak, paddle, and life vest raffle package thanks to Mark Bersani and Loveland Canoe and Kayak. Congratulations to Justin Broyles, the winner of the raffle. Justin is an elementary school teacher in Cincinnati Public who likes to kayak but was lacking his own boat. Problem solved. Congrats, Justin!
Be sure to join us next month on Thursday, February 4th at Taft’s Ale House in OTR, where OACGC and Green Umbrella’s Meet Me Outdoors action team will co-host Green Drinks, a monthly social gathering for people interested in local environmental issues and sustainability initiatives. Roads, Rivers, and Trails will be supplying a “Cold Gear Package” for raffle.
OACGC hosted our final happy hour fundraiser of 2015 at Green Derby in Newport on December 3rd. Guests dined on Kentucky culinary classics while enjoying good drinks and conversation. Jason Spaulding was the lucky winner of our raffle that included Oboz boots, an Opsrey day pack, cozy socks and winter hat donated by Roads, Rivers, and Trails (RRT) in Milford.
RRT also set up a lovely display of holiday gift ideas for the outdoorsy person in everyone’s life. Some smart happy hour attendees even marked off items from their shopping list by picking up perfect gifts from RRT’s display. Thanks to the RRT family, especially Kayla and Emily, for helping make our end of year happy hour extra special.
Also in December, OACGC staffed a complimentary gift wrapping table at REI to engage with people about our work in the Cincinnati community. Shoppers were thankful for the help with wrapping their holiday gifts but were more appreciative of the adventures offered to local urban students by OACGC. Still looking for a gift for the nature-lover in your family? Consider making a gift to OACGC in their honor and share the love!
Outdoor Adventure Clubs hosted our second happy hour fundraiser at Taste of Belgium in Rookwood on Wednesday, November 18th.
Even the driving rain couldn’t dampen the spirits in the dining room and at the bar as OACGC supporters gathered for happy hour at Taste of Belgium in Rookwood. A backpacking and hiking themed raffle was the highlight of the evening, bringing in over $350 to benefit OACGC.
Congratulations to AJ Merrifield, the winner of our raffle. AJ recently moved to Cincinnati from Austin after serving with the US Army abroad. OACGC extends its thanks to AJ for his service, and to REI, Roads, Rivers, and Trails, and Benchmark outfitters for donating items to our raffle. Our success is a direct result of their generosity.
Join OACGC on December 3rd at Green Derby Kentucky Bistro in Newport for the final happy hour fundraiser of 2015 and help OACGC close the year with a bang!
This year we’re on a mission to bring 10,000 local high students out of their comfort zone and into the outdoors. We will take students on amazing adventures that include camping, fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, tubing, snowboarding, high rope crossing, zip lining, and more. We also host indoor adventures including rock climbing, volleyball, yoga, and other fun stuff.
So far we’ve led adventures for about 3,500 students but this year we’re going to take it to another level. We’re doing something that has never been done before in Greater Cincinnati history. It’s time to blow the lid off this thing but we can’t do it without your help.
