Our Journey: September Edition

With all the news happening around the world, it’s possible that you missed this piece of history that occurred over the weekend: OAC kicked off the year with its largest adventure in OAC history – over 100 adventurers adventured down the Little Miami River on Saturday!

You might think that there’s no way an event like that, with students aged 10 to 18 from 6 different schools, wasn’t at least a little chaotic. You’d be right, but we all had a great time and everyone made it down the river! – WITH their kayaks, I might add. We didn’t see much wildlife as we were understandably a loud bunch, but we did see plenty of teamwork, comradery, and leadership from many of the students. For me, that’s what these trips are all about: it’s one thing to learn how to kayak, but it’s another thing entirely to learn about who you are and what you’re capable of doing.

Mr. Mac, Miriam, and I are still fervently getting around to every school to finish up the recruiting fairs and orientation meetings. We had a lot of interest at two new schools we visited this week: Bellevue and Dayton, both Northern Kentucky schools.

Altogether there are four kayaking trips through October 3rd, then it’s on to biking on the Little Miami Bike Trail. I can’t wait to see all the fall foliage along the trail as we cruise by. I’ll post some action pics on our Instagram (@outdooradventureclubs) and Facebook pages from each trip so be sure to check them out. In the meantime, I’m off to prep for our next adventure!

Stay tuned!

Our Journey: Gear Up For School

Hello Outdoor Adventurers!

I’m Joe, your friendly OACGC Program Director! As you know, OACGC is in its first year as an independent non-profit organization. With that exciting new development comes a lot of exciting new changes – including me! While I attended almost every trip last year, this year I’ll be organizing them as well as attending them. You can think of me as the new-and-improved Mr. Mac 😉

With trips right around the corner, OACGC has just started recruiting fairs and orientation meetings before our first kayaking trip on September 12th. We just got back from Riverview Academy where we had over 70 students sign up for kayaking, which, if you’re counting at home, is a lot! We knew it would happen with 20 schools signed up, but that’s some hard evidence that this year is poised to be our biggest yet.

There’s a lot going on at the ol’ OACGC headquarters right now. Miriam Wise, our newest and smartest employee, is hard at work spreading the word about us while Mr. Mac and I are hitting the ground hard, visiting all 20 schools in the next month to get students signed up and excited for the 2015-16 OACGC year. There’s a lot to do but we know how important this program is to all of our participants so we’re working hard to make sure each trip is safe, fun, and memorable for all participants.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to keep up with all of our goings-on including fun outdoor tidbits, fundraising events, and (most importantly) pictures and accounts from each trip!

Stay tuned – big things are happening at OACGC!
